Kinkaku-ji Temple

The Kinkaku-ji temple is topped with a bronze phoenix.  It's also known as the Golden Temple, which doesn't come through in this still-striking photo.

Bamboo fence

I think this is a close-up of a temple fence made of sturdy bamboo posts.  I don't understand the interspersed bundles of sticks.  They look like inverted Japanese-style brooms, but that doesn't explain anything.
